Russian catch gathering positive momentum

By August 24, 2021, the Russian fishermen harvested more than 3.42 million metric tons of fish and seafood to display an increase of 0.1% compared to the same period of 2020, reports

According to the Federal Agency for Fishery (FAF), the catch in the Far Eastern fisheries declined by 0.6% to 2.45 million tons year-on-year.

The pollock fishery catch amounted to 1.3 million tons, going down by 186.72 thousand tons. The Pacific cod harvest amounted to 125 thousand tons, declining by 3.6 thousand tons. The catch of herring increased by 73.27 thousand tons to 226.21 thousand tons.

The Pacific salmon harvest exceeded 474.3 thousand tons (2 times or 238 thousand tons higher than the level of 2020 and 59.61 thousand tons or 14% more than the result in the odd year 2019).

The catch in the Murmansk-led Northern Fisheries increased by 7% to 374.20 thousand tons. The cod fishery harvest increased by 35.7 thousand tons to 267.52 thousand tons. The catch of haddock amounted to 54.67 thousand tons, down by 1.51 thousand tons from the result in 2020.

In the Western Fisheries (Baltic Sea) 57 thousand tons were harvested or 6.5% less than in 2020. In the sprat fishery, the catch was 34.52 thousand tons (3 thousand tons lower). In the same area, 17.3 thousand tons of Baltic herring were caught, which is 0.5 thousand tons more than the level of 2020.

In the Azov-Black Sea fisheries, the catch of aquatic biological resources amounted to 43.75 thousand tons, which is 2% less than the level of 2020. The sprat operations yielded 13.54 thousand tons, which is 5.9 thousand tons less than the level of 2020. The catch of tulka increased by 0.23 thousand tons-up to 2.34 thousand tons.

The total catch of the Volga-Caspian fisheries increased by 37.5% reaching 57.52 thousand tons. The catch of sprat was 20.12 thousand tons, which is 15 thousand tons more than the level of 2020.

In the zones of foreign states, the Russian fleet harvested 203.8 thousand tons, or 15% less than in the corresponding period in 2020.

In the convention areas and the open part of the World Ocean, 8.8% more fish were harvested, the catch there reaching 206.7 thousand tons.
